About the role

The Business Data Analyst transforms enterprise data into actionable insights that support strategic and operational decision-making. This role is responsible for the analysis and design of scalable data solutions and delivering interactive dashboards and analytical outputs using Power BI, Databricks, SQL-based data platforms, and Microsoft Power Platforms. This position bridges business strategy and technical execution, ensuring data is accurate, accessible, governed and aligned to organizational priorities.

 

This role can be performed from our Ottawa or Toronto offices, following a hybrid model approach. This is a full-time permanent opportunity. 

 

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES required for this role

  • Partner with the Data Architect and support business stakeholders to understand reporting, analytics, and performance measurement needs.

  • Act as the primary liaison with internal and/or external stakeholders to capture requirements and advise on optimal data product solutions.

  • Translate business questions into technical data requirements and analytical models.

  • Document data definitions and ensure alignment with enterprise standards.

  • Develop and maintain scalable data pipelines using Databricks (Spark / SQL / Python as applicable).

  • Clean, transform, and model structured and semi-structured datasets.

  • Optimize data queries and workflows for performance and reliability.

  • Support data quality validation and reconciliation processes.

  • Leverage Power Automate to streamline reporting workflows and data refresh processes.

  • Develop lightweight business applications using Power Apps where appropriate.

  • Integrate analytics solutions with SharePoint, Teams, and other Microsoft ecosystem tools.

  • Maintain documentation for dashboards, pipelines, and business rules.

  • Identify opportunities to automate, simplify, and standardize reporting processes.

  • Design, write, and optimize SQL queries, views, and stored procedures to support analytics, reporting, and data validation activities.

  • Participate in the development of data products, including dashboards and visualizations, ETL and database design.

  • Support semantic models and analytical layers, including familiarity with SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS) Tabular or Online analytical processing (OLAP) models, where used in the enterprise reporting stack.

  • Assist with the development and application of standardized methods to integrate data from numerous sources into corporate data systems, ensuring data integrity and interoperability with corporate applications and business intelligence solutions.

  • Monitor performance and business use of data systems to identify areas of opportunities for optimization and enhancements and provide recommendations.

SKILLS you bring 

  • Advance proficiency in Power BI (DAX, data modelling, visualization best practices).

  • Strong hands-on experience with Databricks (Python, Spark).

  • Strong SQL skills and working knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server data platforms, including databases and data warehouses.

  • Familiarity with SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) and SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS) are considered an asset.

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Power Platform (PowerApps, Power Automate).

  • Experience with relational database and data warehousing concepts.

  • Understanding of ETL/ELT processes and data transformation frameworks.

  • Ability to work with large, complex datasets and cloud-based data environments.

 

Required EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE 

  • Bachelor’s degree in data Analytics, Computer Science, Business, Statistics, or related field.

  • 3–5+ years of experience in business intelligence, analytics, or data engineering roles.

  • Experience working in regulated or complex enterprise environments is an asset.

  • Microsoft certifications (e.g., Power BI, Azure Data Engineer) are considered an asset.

  • Certifications in data or business intelligence development are considered assets.

 

Must have

Language Requirements: English Essential 

Security Clearance: Eligibility to obtain a Secret-level security clearance
